Angels and Demons
Img28.png

Angels are God’s messengers or ambassadors who belong to his heavenly court and service.  Their mission in heaven is to praise God (Ps. 148:2).  Angels devote themselves to doing the will of God and ministering to and assisting believers (Heb. 1:14).    There does seem to be different kinds of angels (seraphim and cherubim) and different names for certain angels (Michael and Gabriel).  When dealing with angels, what is important is to not give them characteristics and roles apart from their biblical witness focusing on the angel instead of the angel’s message.

Demons are fallen angels (Jude 6) who are subject to Satan.  Just as angels are God’s messengers, demons do the bidding of Satan and tempt followers of Jesus Christ or potential followers.  Even though there are earthly struggles between Satan and his followers and Jesus and his followers, the battle has already been won through Jesus’ death on the cross and resurrection.  Jesus’ power over the demons is demonstrated, usually by their exorcism, through the power of his Word (Matt. 4:24).  Eventually, all demons and Satan will be cast into the lake of fire forever (Rev. 20:10).
